Issue 12 - Summer 2010

Hello and welcome to summer 2010’s ISLAND magazine!
This summer, ISLAND is, for the
third summer running, being published
in association with CV Travel;
this means that every CV villa on
Corfu is being supplied with a copy of
ISLAND, to be enjoyed by anyone staying
there throughout the season. We
hope you agree that ISLAND makes
essential reading for discerning residents
and visitors to Corfu alike.
The whole world may be talking
about Greece’s financial woes, but
the sun is still shining and the people
still smiling in Corfu. Yes, times are
hard, but we at ISLAND can’t think of
anywhere we would rather be, so we
won’t be abandoning ship just yet!
If you, like so many before you, have
been seduced by Corfu while on
holiday and dream about moving here
full-time, see if you have what it takes
by reading our article entitled ‘Live
the dream in Corfu’ on page 42.
On page 32, read Teresa Nicholas’s
memoirs of Corfu in the 60s, based
on her diary extracts. Whether you
live here or holiday here, you will be
enchanted by the detailed descriptions
of what life used to be like.
Want to go back much further into
Corfiot history? There are many beautiful
houses on Corfu, some with their own
century-old stories to tell; none more so
than the history-steeped old mansion
of St. Stephanos, featured on page 18.
On page 23, read our exclusive
interview with the British Ambassador
and what he has to say about
the British-Greek relationship.
And, as usual, there are many more
interesting features than we have
room on this page to mention, including
a fascinating guide to Greek music
(p.38), a travel feature on the Diapontian
Islands (p.10) and suitably summery,
mouthwatering recipes (p.12).
Have a great summer!
